Golden Key International Honor Society Recognizes New Members

Thursday, March 4, 2010, the Cal Poly Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society hosted their New Member Recognition Event. Congratulations to all the new members who were inducted, as well as the current membership. Golden Key is a national collegiate honor society, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement in high-achieving individuals.

Alumna Writes Critically Acclaimed Biography of Raymond Carver


Cal Poly alumna Carol Sklenicka (English, 1971) has written a critically acclaimed biography, "Raymond Carver." Scribner published the book in November. The book is Sklenicka's portrait of the iconic short-story writer. It was hailed as one of the top 10 books of 2009 in the New York Times Book Review. In another New York Times Book Review, author Stephen King called the book "meticulous and heartbreaking."

Emetirus Professor Presents at Italian Conference

Emeritus Professor Presents at Italian Conference

English Department emeritus professor, Charles W. Strong (Cal Poly 1971 – 2000), presented "Shelley's Use of Terza Rima Sonnets in 'Ode to the West Wind,'" on Jan. 25 at the "The Romantics in Italy:  Dante, Italian Culture, and Romantic Literature," conference, in Florence, Italy. The conference was sponsored by the fondazione delbianco and organized by Frederick Burwick, UCLA and Paul Douglass, San Jose State.
